FAQ and troubleshooting

Wira Bandar PC is a fork of OpenTTD: OpenTTD's code with changes, free software under the GNU GPL v2. About and credits

No. It is a fork of OpenTTD: OpenTTD’s code with changes, not a game made from scratch. It keeps the whole of OpenTTD and adds city-building and public transport features set in Malaysia and Singapore. Compared with OpenTTD lists the differences.

Yes. Like OpenTTD, it is free software under the GNU General Public License version 2. The source code is on GitHub.

No. If you have it, Wira Bandar PC uses your OpenTTD settings, saves, graphics, NewGRFs and AIs. If you don’t, it downloads the free OpenGFX graphics the first time (see Download and install).

No. It has its own folder, Documents\Wira Bandar. On the first start it copies your OpenTTD settings and saves, and it never moves, changes or deletes anything in Documents\OpenTTD. It saves as .csav, so your .sav files are never overwritten.

No. .csav saves hold Wira Bandar’s extra data (lights, zones, councils, lines and so on), which OpenTTD doesn’t know, so OpenTTD doesn’t list them. See Saves.

Is there a version for Mac, Linux, phones or tablets?

Section titled “Is there a version for Mac, Linux, phones or tablets?”

Only a 64-bit Windows build is published. The game also builds on Linux from the source code, as OpenTTD does.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”

Section titled “Windows says “Windows protected your PC””

The program isn’t code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway. To avoid the warning, right-click the zip before unzipping it, choose Properties, tick Unblock, and click OK.

The main menu says the base graphics set is missing some sprites

Section titled “The main menu says the base graphics set is missing some sprites”

That’s expected: the sprites it counts are Wira Bandar’s own new graphics (traffic lights, buildings, buses and so on), which the game loads from its own file. Nothing is missing in the game.

No graphics set was found. Click Yes, download the graphics to get OpenGFX. If that fails, install it from Online Content or by hand: see Graphics, NewGRFs and AIs.

Wira Bandar PC looks for NewGRFs in its own folder, in Documents\OpenTTD and its content_download folder, and in C:\Program Files\OpenTTD\newgrf. The very first build didn’t look in C:\Program Files\OpenTTD yet: if your version (in Help → About ‘Wira Bandar’) ends in 2cafaa4ed5, download the latest zip. If your NewGRFs are somewhere else, copy them into Documents\Wira Bandar\newgrf, or click Find missing content online in the Load Game window.

My settings or saves from OpenTTD didn’t come over

Section titled “My settings or saves from OpenTTD didn’t come over”

They’re copied only on the first start, and only if Documents\OpenTTD had an openttd.cfg then. To copy again, close the game, delete or rename Documents\Wira Bandar\openttd.cfg and start it. To bring over a single save, copy it from Documents\OpenTTD\save to Documents\Wira Bandar\save.

In Documents\Wira Bandar\save (autosaves in save\autosave) and Documents\Wira Bandar\screenshot.

Some text is in English although I chose another language

Section titled “Some text is in English although I chose another language”

Wira Bandar’s own text is in English only. The rest of the game is translated as in OpenTTD.

Most features have an Off setting in Options and settings (the gear) → Game options → Advanced. The settings reference lists them all, and Compared with OpenTTD says which choice plays as in OpenTTD for each feature.

I loaded my OpenTTD save and the roads are jammed

Section titled “I loaded my OpenTTD save and the roads are jammed”

Wira Bandar’s town traffic and commuting switch on with an old save, so towns’ cars now fill busy roads, and road vehicles give way at junctions. What helps:

  • carry more of the town’s passengers: the more you carry, the fewer cars (up to 60% fewer);
  • traffic lights at busy junctions, which let whole queues through on green;
  • bus lanes and bus priority, so buses pass the queues;
  • the traffic overlay to see where traffic is held up.

To play as before, set Town traffic to Off and switch off Road vehicles give way at junctions (see Saves).

My towns don’t grow the way they used to

Section titled “My towns don’t grow the way they used to”

Several new systems shape town growth: zones, city services and happiness, taxes, air pollution, land value, and the new buildings. The town window shows the town’s happiness, its services, its air and its land value, and says when the town isn’t growing. See City services, Zoning and Air pollution and land value.

Yes, as in OpenTTD. They don’t use Wira Bandar’s features unless they were written for it.

Yes, with other players who run exactly the same build of Wira Bandar PC. It can’t join OpenTTD servers, and OpenTTD players can’t join Wira Bandar games.

Download the zip again and replace the program folder. Your settings and saves stay in Documents\Wira Bandar, and older saves load in newer builds.
